Ecotoxicological Assessment of Industrial Chemicals

Purpose of the training course:
The training course focuses on the basic knowledge of ecotoxicological hazard assessment. A combination of theory and practical exercises enable the participants to understand the interaction between several biotic and abiotic parameters. This is an essential requirement for the environmental hazard assessment of substances.

  • Environmental Distribution:
  • Adsorption
  • Henry’s Law constant
  • Bioaccumulation assessment:
  • Octanol/Water partition coefficient (log Pow)
  • Bioconcentration factor (BCF)
  • Abiotic degradation:
  • Photodegradation
  • Hydrolysis
  • Biodegradation:
  • Screening on ready biodegradability
  • Screening on inherent biodegradability
  • Simulation tests
  • Aquatic ecotoxicology:
  • Short- and long-term effects on fish
  • Short- and long-term effects on invertebrates (Daphnia)
  • Effects on unicellular green algae
  • Activated sludge respiration inhibition
  • Effects on sediment invertebrates
  • Terrestrial ecotoxicology:
  • Short- and long-term effects on soil invertebrates
  • Terrestrial plant test, seedling emergence and growth
  • Soil microorganisms tests
  • Birds reproduction test
  • Overview on the regulatory backround (Classification & Labeling, Risk-Assessment, PBT-Assessment)
  • Excersises
Target audience:
Product safety- and REACH responsible persons as well as other Ecotoxicological interested people.
